Steele student Phoenix Rainwater advances to national Microsoft Office skills championship
Steele Early College High School junior Phoenix Rainwater has advanced through the state championship for mastery of Microsoft software, an honor that will now allow him to showcase his skills against the best in the nation.
Phoenix was among the top-scoring students in Texas on the Microsoft Office Skills Specialist exam, receiving a perfect score on the Microsoft Office Skills PowerPoint exam. Phoenix earned a high enough score to compete in Certiport’s 2022 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship in Dallas from June 20 to 22.
“I was stacking all of the programs and trying to certify in as many areas as I could,” Phoenix said. “I was playing catch up since I was only online last year. I trained thoroughly and I felt really prepared when I took the certification exam.”
Phoenix obtained his Microsoft Office Specialist Master certification recently, with certifications in seven Microsoft Office programs. He received his Microsoft certifications, among others, in Patti Hayes’ career and technical education classes at Steele, which focus on providing students with competitive advantages and skills for their futures careers.
“Coach Hayes is a great support. She’s always available and willing to provide direction when needed,” said Phoenix. “She’s a great resource.”
Phoenix is considering attending Texas A&M University to study mechanical engineering.
